Dear Parents

Welcome to the school year of 2022. It is great to see everyone returning for this school year and to see the interactions as children, parents and teachers all starting to reconnect after what we hope has been a really lovely summer break.

A special welcome to all our new whanau. We have a sprinkling of new children across all year groups: Pippa McCall, Emerson Patterson, Johana JiJo, Shepherd Patterson, Rylan Thompson-Mende, James Calvert, Kaydince Vaineritua, and Nathan Abhilash. We hope you start to make connections and are soon settled in the Sacred Heart School community. If you have questions please ask, we are all here to support and we appreciate that starting in a new school has a lot of layers to work through.

We would also like to welcome our new Learning Support Co-ordinator Kit Pryde. Kit will be based at St. Patrick’s School.

Our staff have all had a great break, and are now planning and working together as we want 2022 to be an exciting year with lots of opportunities.

Unfortunately we haven’t been able to have our meet the teacher evening as planned due to covid restrictions, however by the end of this week all students will have received a class letter.  This will introduce the classroom teacher, update you on curriculum coverage and include contact details if you have any questions or concerns.

Swimming was great yesterday, the children thoroughly enjoyed it. We continue for 9 more days to finish our block for the year: 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24 and 25 are the dates. If you are able to assist in the changing rooms between 1 – 2pm, we would be most grateful.

Next Tuesday 15th February, we will be celebrating our school Liturgy. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions, parents are unable to attend.

Next Friday 18th February, we will be having ‘House Colour Day’. Our house leaders will be will be organising activities for the day. Your child is to wear coloured clothing which represent their house.

Week 3: Green 14th – 18th February
14th St Valentine
14th Saints Cyril and Methodius

Saint Valentine, lived in 269, a time ago when Claudius II was the ruler of Rome. Claudius II did not like Christians, and he needed soldiers to fight in his wars. He made a law that people couldn’t get married because thought that if men got married and had families, they would not want to go off and fight in his wars.

Saint Valentine was a priest and would marry the men and women who were in love, and this was against the law. So, St. Valentine is the patron saint of love and marriage.

Prayer for St Valentines Day
God of love, you give us St. Valentine as an example of love. As celebrate the feast of this loving and caring saint we ask you to bless our friendships. May the love and affection we share with each other, always come from a sense of care and respect. May we always follow the example of your Son, Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
