2 July 2020
Dear Parents
As Term 2 comes to an end I wish to thank you all for your support during what has been a very unusual and hopefully one off event in New Zealand. The Covid 19 pandemic has changed the way we will do a lot of things in the future and while we are back to a sense of normality in New Zealand, the flow on effects of the pandemic still rampant in most of the world means the hit on our economy will bring more hardship to families. While I don’t politicise school newsletters the ‘Look After Each Other’ slogan is one we will need to continue doing for our neighbours and friends. Please also let us know if we can assist in any way. School reopens on Monday 20th July.

A big thanks to Brett Hamilton and Jono Duffy for all your work clearing the old gardens and putting up the new sign and fence and for installing the netball poles. This was a mammoth job and much appreciated. The new basketball back boards and bag rails will installed soon as well.

God we are tired. Thank you for this holiday. We know it maybe cold, wet and windy but you gave us the weather so we can enjoy something different every day.

As you let the earth rest through the winter, we too are gifted with this opportunity to rest and recover from our business and hard work at school and home. Help us share the peace of this time with our family and friends. Amen
Matthew 11:28-30  (NIV)
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul.

Welcome to Isla Buchanan who joined the children in Room Tika recently. We hope she and her family enjoy their time at Sacred Heart School.

Tomorrow we farewell Jacob Perkins and his family who move to Christchurch in the holidays. It’s been lovely having Jacob as part of Room Aroha, and we wish them luck with their next adventure.
P.S.  Thank you so much for the delicious morning tea.

It is with regret we also farewell Miss Smith tomorrow. We thank her for her input into the children at Sacred Heart, we have loved having her on our staff. Miss Smith has taken a position as Learning Support Co-ordinator, based at Sacred Heart School, so you will still see her around.

Congratulations to Madison Harding and Reuben Murray who received the Charism Award for Weeks 11 & 12, and all the children who received certificates.

School Interviews / Uniforms
Thank you to the parents who were able to attend these this week. After the turmoil of the first part of this year we look forward to more normality in the two terms ahead.
A number of you will have seen the uniform options on display during the interviews. Thank you to Jono Duffy from the Board of Trustees for organising this. In the past whenever we survey about uniforms we get all sorts of different requests – cardigans, culotte, fleecy tops etc. In this instance the survey will ask whether we retain our current pinafore / grey shorts or move to  a uni-sex model where boys and girls can wear a similar school uniform.  I will send this survey out early next term.

Fundraising With Entertainment: It’s almost school holidays, so keep the whole family entertained with the Entertainment Book APP. If you haven’t had one before, this is a great APP with heaps of discounts at local restaurants, cafes, retail outlets, accommodation, car rentals, and tourist attractions. The multi-city option is perfect for those travelling around NZ during the holidays and is great value at only $119.99. It gives you access to every edition of the Entertainment Book across New Zealand, Australia & Bali and gives the school $26 towards our fundraising goal. Your digital membership can be accessed from up to four different devices so it’s perfect for sharing with friends/family. With 2 extra months on your membership, a bonus Countdown gift card, and the chance to win one of five $1000 JB Hi Fi vouchers, now is a great time to buy. 20% of the sale price goes back to the school, so purchase online today: https://www.entertainmentbook.co.nz/orderbooks/26009b1

Akomanga Tika Class Happenings
In class we have been focusing on Matariki.
We have learnt the star names and how we can celebrate with our family and friends. Here is a video of us saying the Matariki star names.

We also had a shared lunch with the whole school.
